What It Means to Be Accredited Engineering Professionals?

Did you know that there are several accredited engineering professional organizations that engineers and engineering firms can be a part of? Cemcorp Ltd. is registered and active with two great organizations, who provide its members with certain benefits, along with a level of credibility to their engineering services. These are the Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) and the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC), Canada.

All Engineering firms must obtain a approval to provide professional engineering services from the Provincial Authority. For example, in Ontario the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) provide a “Certificate of Approval” and in Alberta the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) provide a “Permit to Practice”.

In additional to this, some Professional Engineers and Engineering Firms apply and obtain the additional designation as Consulting Engineers. In order to obtain this designation, you must be a professional Engineer and also offer expertise gathered by additional training and experience in fields of specialization.

Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO)

Founded in 1975, Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) is an association that advocates for a business and regulatory climate in the interests of our members. CEO represents approximately 170 consulting engineering firms (including Cemcorp Ltd.) that employ nearly 19,000 Ontarians. CEO member firms provide a wide range of engineering services to government and private sector clients. Member firms range in size from sole proprietorships to large multinational engineering firms. Accumulated gross revenues of consulting engineering firms across the country contribute north of $31 billion to the economy annually.

Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC)

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) is a not-for profit organization that has been the voice of Canadian consulting engineering companies since it was founded in 1925.

ACEC represent the commercial interests of businesses that provide professional engineering services (including Cemcorp Ltd), to both the public and the private sector. ACEC members’ services include planning, designing and implementing all types of engineering projects, and providing independent advice and expertise in a wide range of engineering-related fields.

ACEC’s member companies directly influence virtually every aspect of quality of life in Canada-economic, social and environmental. Because engineering is a regulated profession, every individual employed by our members is required by law to act “with fidelity to the public interest.”

According to ACEC, Consulting engineers offer professional engineering services and expertise to both public and private sector organizations. Consulting engineers also act as independent agents and advocates for their clients, and are responsible for finding innovative solutions to technical problems and provide strategic advice to business and management. In Canada, these licensed professionals offer a wide array of services and expertise in areas not only related to engineering and science, but also in economic sectors such as energy, resource development, environmental protection, and manufacturing.
